Shoot 4 : Daniel

It was Daniel's idea to go to the Lalang field. So after some googling and exploring, we found it. The 'famous' lalang field. Sad to say, it wasn't quite as impressive as I thought (not the most beautiful lalang you will find, not to mention the sky's a boring shade of grey). Nevertheless, we made do with what we have. Weather wasn't on our side as well, it rained and stopped a couple of times, making us scrabbling back into shelter. Note to self : check the weather forecast before every shoot!

So, I hope you enjoy the photos. Sorry Daniel if it is not up to expectations! Thanks for helping and bringing me to the lalang field! =D

Shoot 3 : Ken

I'm most excited about this shoot.
Playing with lights! Most of the shots are done with natural lighting and/or 1 studio light.
Thank you Ken for helping me out and lending his afternoon to me. Cheers!

Shoot 2 : Green Poppies

For my second shoot, I managed to convince my friend Hazel to grant me an exclusive interview with her on her fashion shop in Haji Lane.

Hazel, a good friend of mine since my Polytechnic days (wow, 5 years now! How time flies…), is the owner of the vastly successful shop ‘Green Poppies’. I got the chance to sit down with her to ask a few questions.

How long has Green Poppies been around?
Our online store has been around for the fifth year now, and our physical store is slightly over a year old.

How has Green Poppies grown since the beginning?
We started out on livejournal selling my handmade jewelry and ladies’ accessories. In 2009, we had our official online store greenpoppies.com.sg. In 2010, we opened our current physical store located at Haji Lane.

Why did you decide to start a physical store and why did you choose this location?
Right from the start our emphasis is on the quality of our products. I believe in providing quality products to all our customers and with just our online store, it was difficult to do so as you cannot touch and feel our products. The highly competitive pricing amongst online shops was also another driving factor.
It was also one of our visions to go both online and offline. For this reason, coupled with the need to provide our customers with an avenue to touch and feel the quality of our products, drove us to open our physical store in 2010.

As for the location, I know I didn’t want to start out in a shopping mall as I wanted something cosy and less commercialized. Haji Lane is a good blend between uniqueness and trendiness, and the crowd it draws suits our business.

What is the next step for Green Poppies?
We are looking into starting our own label. In fact, we have already started working on this. Some of the dresses on display are designed by our very own designers.
This is what we want to work towards in the near future.

Green Poppies is located at 11 Haji Lane, Singapore 189204.
They are open Sunday to Thursday from 12:00 – 20:00 and Friday and Saturday from 12:00 – 21:00
